A line is a point plus a direction; a plane is a point plus a normal. Put one into the other to see where they meet, and use the normal to measure how far a point is from a plane.
A line in 3D needs two things: a point on it, p₀ = (1, −1, 0), and a direction, d = (1, 1, 1). The amber arrow is d, drawn from p₀.
